New Single from Rick Fleek

Juneau singer/songwriter Rick Fleek has just released a new single as a follow up to his album "Lost and Found" which was released in 2004.

Rick Fleek @ Skatebottom Sound Studios

The single, titled "The Skatebottom Session", like the old 45 rpm records, contains two songs: "You're in Love" and "You're Going to Miss Me When I'm Gone", both written by Rick.

The first song, "You're in Love", is about what it feels like to be in love. The second song, "You're going to miss me when I'm gone", speaks for itself. It's just perfect for that ex.

Listen to mp3 samples of "You're in Love" and
"You're Going to Miss Me When I'm Gone"

The new CD was recorded here in Juneau at Skatebottom Sound and along with Rick, features Albert McDonnell and Dale McFarlin as the 4th street band.

You can pick up a copy of "The Skatebottom Session" at Capital Records downtown or Rozwick/Giles Music in the valley. Likewise, Rick's album "Lost and Found" is also available at both these stores as well as on the internet at cdbaby.com.

Rory's grand "taurero" finale!!!

Rory Stitt's "taurero" tour is quickly approaching its end. With only 3 dates to go, this is the last chance to catch Rory as he rides the proverbial bull through the inner lives of dreams, identity, sex, love and death. Not something to be missed!

If you're anywhere near any of the below cities, come on out and prepare to be forever changed. If you're not, but know someone who is (especially in LA as almost EVERYone knows SOMEone in LA!), do them a favor and forward the info on to them. They'll thank you for it. Tell them Rory's recently been described as "a cross between Joni Mitchell, Stephen Sondheim and Freddie Mercury" and that should get their attention. Also that he's been compared to Rufus Wainwright and Tori Amos.

Here's to the midnight ride of the piano animal!

Satan's Taint

This is a funky little group and their singer can truly belt some soulful tunes. Nora sings, Dave Pichard plays guitar, Bud Curtis (formerly played wityh Contra Public) on Bass and Doug Fanyak (formerly played with Peabodies Monster) on Drums.

If you take their name to indicate they are heavy metal or actually are into dark occult it is a misnomer. If you take it to mean Bud Curtis has a twisted sense of humor and we all get a little bored clinging to this rock, headsing towards winter you are right on track. They play alternative rock/funk. The tunes they have down are tight. Crisp punchy rhythmn guitar from Dave Pichard who also plays a a nice lead. Bud Curtis carries the bottom nicely, switching between a soft, fingerstyle bass and some nice laid back slap. Doug Fanyak holds together the rhytmn section and comes up with some nice, unorthodox drum styles. Nora... well Nora sings folks. Whether they are playfully covering Michael Jackson or ripping into an original funk tune she is a pleasure to listen to. Ted Danson thought so. At least,m he waited until after their last song before he left the Alaskan this past month.

The bands volume and mix is excellent, allowing each instrument to come through and Nora's vocals to shine.
