Not to Miss This Weekend @ The Alaskan

Justin Smith, who once toured Europe with Chicago blues great Son Seals, leads his band of funky bluesmen at this reunion of one of the most successful local bands in the last decade: The Blues Band. Steve Nelson plays a percussive tasty Hammond B-3 complete with an authentic swirling leslie and with Adrian Minne on bass and Vern Fowler on drums there is always a groove with a big sweet pocket. Expect classic blues covers withsome twists (I'd love to hear them do the theme to "2001" again), and extended, improvised solos.

The Great Stalacpipe Organ.

"This unique, one-of-a-kind instrument was invented in 1954 by Mr. Leland W. Sprinkle of Springfield, Virginia, a mathematician and electronic scientist at the Pentagon. He began his monumental 3 year project by searching the vast chambers of the caverns selecting stalactites to precisely match a musical scale." More>>
