Number's Up!

Buoy Physical Theatre presents:

Number's Up!
a one man clown-play written and performed by John Leo and directed by Roblin Gray Davis.

A flight weary clown arrives (or is he departing?) and is separated from his partner. What begins as every entertainer's worst nightmare ends in the sweet hereafter, as our humiliated friend wrestles his way through fiasco and fleeting competence. An ode to the glorious awkwardness of being human and a testament to the buoyancy of the human spirit, ...Number's Up! explores the nebulous nature of reality and the ruthless reality of nature.

Number's Up! will play April Fool's Weekend for TWO SHOWS ONLY and is suitable for teens and adults. Shows begin at 8pm on Friday, March 31st and Saturday, April 1st at the VFW HALL, the big red building at 1st and Gold, behind the Baranof Hotel. Tickets are available at the door at 7:30pm on a sliding scale basis of $5 to $15.

"The Zen of Clown!" - a Clown Workshop

An 8 Week Course for Adults in the Art of Opening Up & Being Funny with Clown-Artist John Leo.

Course Description.

"The Zen of Clown!" is a journey of self-discovery and an awakening to the world around us. Through meditation, yoga and rigorous game-playing participants will wake up their inner-idiot, the part of us that we'd really rather other people not see.

Classes will be held at Rainforest Yoga (above Heritage Coffee in the Emporium Building, downtown) on Thursdays in January and February from 7pm to 9pm.
The cost of the 8-week course is $100 to $180 sliding scale (you pay what you can).

Unscripted Theater, Oct 22nd @ Perservence Pheonix Stage

Morally Improv-erished is proud to introduce its new show Unscripted Theater, a foray into organic longform improvisation. Unscripted Theater will be performed on Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, October 23 at Perseverance Theatre’s Second Stage. Both shows are at 8:00pm and are $5.00 at the door.

Unscripted Theater delves into the artistic side of improvisational performance. Where traditional improv focuses on short, structured game formats, Unscripted Theater is a collection of extended vignettes, where the performers explore a series of themes and characters in 15 to 30 minute bursts. Based on organic improv theory, first popularized in Chicago, Unscripted Theater gives the audience a unique theatrical experience at every show.

Unscripted Theater includes the following elements:

The Freeform Montage – Taking a single audience suggestion, four actors execute a freeform performance with rapid-fire changes of characters, performers, and themes – many of which return later in the montage. (Saturday only)

The Solo-Start Montage – Like the freeform montage, in that the actors play an array of characters, scenes, and themes. In this three-person format, two actors will perform a scene until the third actor enters the stage and begins a new scene with an imaginary other. This imaginary other is then replaced by a live actor.

Alpha & Omega – The signature format of co-founder, Eric Caldwell, Alpha & Omega is a fully improvised one-man show that taps into mythology and religion. The audience is taken on a journey where the mundane in life is given divine importance by the narrator.

Road to Hell – An improvised tragedy in three parts. Road to Hell features Eric Caldwell as a lone man recounting the events and circumstances that brought him to his lowly place in life. (Sunday only)

Improv At The Park

The local improv scene hits Juneau Arts And Humanities' Concert in the Park series on two consecutive Fridays.

On August 5, Alpha & Omega will hit the stage at 7:00pm. A&O uses a single audience suggestion to weave a creation fable and tell the story of the downfall of humanity. This piece is a solo structure created and performed by Eric Caldwell.

On August 12, Morally Improv-erished appears at Marine Park for a 30-minute set of unscripted comedy. This five-member show brings out the laughs in unexpected ways. If you have not seen Morally Improv-erished live, this is your chance to see them for free.
